OPEN DOORS 2012

Open Doors 2012 was held last 16 to 18 January at the Crowne Plaza Center, Philippines with the objective of strengthening the emerging community of procurement practitioners in EAP through experience-sharing and identifying possible collaboration areas.

The conference also aimed to contribute to the regional procurement agenda of ANSA-EAP and its partners through sharing on social accountability tools for procurement practitioners.

Social Accountability News

World Bank launches consultation on global partnership for social accountability.  The World Bank launched a consultation with civil society organizations on the feasibility and desirability of establishing a global partnership for social accountability. The consultations will be held between January and June 2012.

Cambodia passes public procurement law.  Last 03 January 2012, Cambodia’s national assembly passed Cambodia’s first law on public procurement as a means to combat corruption in the public sector.

Philippine government endorse FOI bill.  Philippine President Benigno Aquino III endorsed a substitute freedom of information (FOI) bill to the Philippine congress.

ANSA-EAP Updates

ANSA-EAP Community profile.  The community profile of ANSA-EAP, its conveners groups, member organizations and network fellows can now be downloaded.

Star Kampuchea, the coordinating organization of ANSA-EAP’s conveners group in Cambodia was one of 13 organizations awarded grants by the Demand for Good Governance (DFGG) project.

The Northern Luzon Coalition for Good Governance (NLCGG) conducted a one-day consultation with local government leaders entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in Involving Citizens in Local Governance“.

Announcements

The World Bank Institute (WBI) will be holding a free online course on “Parliaments and the Budget” from March 5-30 2012. Participants in the course will learn “how legislatures ensure that the budget optimally matches a nation’s needs with available resources”.
